Using online platforms for conducting classes had never been a norm in Bangladesh. AEF (Agami Education Foundation) is trying to provide training by arranging online simulation classes through the Teachers’ Training (TT) program. With this aim, on August 16, 2020, a simulation class on English was held using the zoom platform.

16 teachers from 11 Agami supported schools, 5 officials from AEF and Mamunur Rahman Rana (Senior English teacher of government school), and NCTB Master Trainer participated in the session. Biploby Chakraborty (English teacher of PSD Pearabag School) conducted the simulation class. The topic was ‘Happy Birthday’, Unit 15 from class V English for Today textbook. The program was led by Nafisa Khanam, Executive Director, AEF and arranged by Israt Sharmin, Project Manager and English Teacher Trainer, AEF.

Biploby used handy tools and materials to simulate an interactive classroom despite the challenges to running an online presentation for the first time. She focused on vocabulary, sound practice, reading,
and speaking. She tried to maximize engagement with her students who were other teachers acting as students.

Mamunur Rahman sir, Somiron Gregory, and Israt Sharmin as well as other teachers provided valuable feedback on the session. It was indeed a successful simulation class completed by the hard work of all participants. The TT team from AEF will arrange more simulation classes to help teachers in Agami schools overcome the challenges of online platforms through online and offline training sessions.
