Teachers Training Expansion

Importance of teachers training is universal for all levels of education in any school and in any country. It is more critical for the schools dealing speially with the underprivileged children in Bangladesh. In the first decade (2003-2010) of Agami engagement in Bangladesh, the primary focus was to keep the students in the school, hence the quantity of education and thus, dropout rate decreased. In the second decade (2011-2020) of engagement, Agami’s focus has expanded from quantity to quality of education.

In the second decade of engagement, Agami undertook Khan Academy Bangla (KAB) in 2011 and School Monitoring in 2014 to enhance and measure the impacts, respectively. In 2016, Agami Education Foundation-AEF (Bangladesh), a sister organization of Agami Inc. (USA), initiated the Teachers Training (TT) component of the quality education. Activities within TT have grown significantly ever since with support from Agami Central.

In last 4 years, a dedicated AEF Development and Training Team successfully organized more than 10 training sessions and trained 91 teachers which in turn benefited ~10,000 students in Agami schools. Given the context of Bangladesh, it is not that simple to include the teachers from the rural schools outside of the greater Dhaka city because of travel and additional costs. To its credi, AEF has been working diligently in bringing all teachers from all Agami schools – urban and rural – under its TT activities.

Under TT and KAB initiatives, teaching math and science has received additional attention from the team. In 2020, it has developed interactive science manual for hands-on teachers training for the Grade III level. It also plans to develop additional interactive science manuals for the higher-grade levels.

We wish success for the TT project over the years to come. We also hope to observe greater impacts with additional success stories from the Agamisponsored schools. I am positive that more international funding partners and agencies like the Australia-based SMEC, who already donated AUD 10,000 for AEF’s TT project, will come forward with assistance if the team continues exploring the pursuit with passion and hard work.
