Agami held its annual fundraiser on May 30, 2009 at TiE Center in
Silicon Valley. This event was organized by Farzana Sultana with the
help of many volunteers. The event brought in $49,000 in donations and
pledges exceeding all expectations.

Cyclone Aila ripped through the southern coastal region of Bangladesh
on May 25. One of the hardest hit areas includes Koyra
Upazila in Khulna. Three Agami schools providing education for 700
students were severely damaged by this cyclone.

Agami now has two new board members: Farzana Sultana and Imtiaz
Chowdhury. Both of them have shown tremendous dedication and commitment
to the Agami's cause over the last two years or so.

Begining this summer Agami will introduce new membership packages and
benefits for all its members. Agami members will receive discounted
admission to Agami events and will have voting rights to elect the
executive committee and the board of directors.

I always wanted to give back to my community and was looking for some
local group or organization in the Bay area dedicated to promote basic
education for the underprivileged children in Bangladesh. Among all the
issues and challenges in healthcare, childhood education and other
areas that need development, I feel that the most important area is
that of basic education for girls.

Agami is always looking for dedicated volunteers in many different
areas to keep up with its multi-faceted growth. Some of the
areas that you can help and impact are (not limited to): executive
committee, sub-committees, public relations, donor relations, volunteer
relations, marketing, project development, project coordination,
quarterly Agami Newsletter, quarterly community meetings cum
fundraisers, grant writing, budgeting, and accounting.
